But first…

What’s so special about working on a startup?

There are those who conceive a startup as a place of work with infinite sofas, billiard rooms, football in the middle of the office, food and free refreshments …

While others associate it to work in a garage or in a bucket in the typical incubator, sometimes with an internet slower than a turtle with hangover.

The amazing thing about this? That they’re probably both right. Think about this: a startup is nothing more than a recently created company.

Yes, usually being a startup implies a series of distinctive features, such as having a scalable business model, great adaptation to change and a strong technological component.

But every startup is special and unique.

And precisely for that, you will not find another startup like Legalbono 😉 . First of all, because we believe that working on a startup means more than a simple job,. It’s a mission. You will discover the rest of the reasons throughout this series. So I hope that, whether you just want to nose about as if you are looking to implement new practices in your company, enjoy the tour that we offer today from the product team”. Here we go!

It’s Weekly Meeting-monday

Every Monday we make a weekly face-to-face meeting at 10:00 AM to begin the week with clear objectives. They are the well known weekly Meeting.

These meetings usually last about 1 hour. All members in the product team participate in these meetings.

Some people think that the best slate is always a window. Alejandro is one of them

In these meetings we set our weekly tasks and reorder them according to their priority. We also take into account possible difficulties that we have encountered throughout the past week or we discuss new proposals that will help us to move forward in accomplish our goal.

In our case, we do two separate meetings. A meeting for the “product” team and then another for the “development” team.

José Antonio is responsible for maintaining coordination between the two teams and acts as a bridge in both meetings. In this way we make sure that there is good internal communication and both teams keep up in the same direction.

Daily Stand Up meetings

Weekly Meeting are indeed marvelous. However we would fool ourselves if we thought that only with them it’s enough to have a fluent communication.

For that reason, we make our Daily Stand Up meeting of 10 minutes at the beginning of the day during the week. In these meetings we summarize and communicate our daily tasks and resolve any inconvenience that is slowing us down.

Andrea always cheers up us, even if we are on Monday 😛

The methodology is very simple:

  • Everyone post in Teams what he did yesterday and what he will do today
  • at 10:00 AM we meet on Skype to make a meeting that lasts, at most, 10 minutes.
  • In the meeting each one responds to 3 very simple and straightforward questions:
    • What did I do yesterday that helped the goals of the week?
    • What am I going to do today that helps the goals of the week?
    • What is preventing me from progressing?

This way there are no excuses. Each one is aware of what he should do and he can quickly detect the obstacles that have appeared.

Get to work

Thanks to all above mentioned now we are more efficient in doing our chores and we can devote time to what is important.

In addition, in Legalbono we are a paper-free company. There are neither fixed positions. We all work side by side in the same room. In this way we are accessible to other partners in case they need us and vice versa. And if a partner that day is working from home (something very common), we just have to open a window on Skype to communicate with him.

For me, today it’s time to update some of our smart forms. We make sure that all our documents are written according to current legislation and we meticulously check the programming and intelligence of them.

Thus, the user gets, in a few quick and simple steps, a document that is fully customized and totally legal.

Because legalbono’s mission is to do the legal, easy.
